The Well Pump Pressure Switch is an important part of a Well Pump and Pressure Tank System. If the well pressure switch isn't properly working then your entire Water Well Pump System will not function efficiently or work at all.
The Well Pressure Switch Monitors two important pressure levels in your Well Pump Pressure Tank System and Turns the Electricity On or Off to your Well Pumps depending on those pressure levels.
The Pressure Switch is an Electrical Mechanical Device.
Therefore, like most things that have Moving Mechanical Parts they will break and fail sometimes after a lot of use. They also have Electrical Contacts that carry High Voltage Electricity to operate the Well Pumps. The Well Pump Pressure Switch has an important job. It helps supply you with proper water pressure within a given pressure range.
Some Symptoms of possible Well Pump Pressure Switch Malfunction or Failure could be that your Well Pump is turning On and Off Frequently or your Well Pump will not turn on at all. If your Well Pump Circuit Breaker is on but your Well pump is not running at all then it could be the pressure switch. Another symptom could be that you have low water pressure. If the Well Pressure Switch can't reach the High Pressure Limit then your Water Pressure would be lower all the time.
IF YOU DECIDE TO INSPECT THE PRESSURE SWITCH YOURSELF YOU COULD BE SERIOUSLY SHOCKED OR EVEN KILLED BY THE HIGH VOLTAGE INSIDE THE SWITCH AND FROM POORLY INSTALLED ELECTRICAL SUPPLY WIRING THAT ISN'T PROPERLY GROUNDED.
The part or parts that break or fail or malfunction in a Pump Pressure Switch could any number of small parts that make up the entire Pressure Switch. It could be something so simple as the spring is old and doesn't have enough strength. Sometimes this can be repaired by adjusting the set nut on the spring. It could be a water tight fitting that supplies water pressure monitoring to the switch that loosened over time or an O-Ring that has failed.
Another problem that sometimes happens is the High Voltage Electrical Contacts will develop burn spots, cavities or build up residue caused by the High Voltage Arc Sparks as the contacts are opening and closing. Sometimes the originall Well Pump Contractor may have been in a hurry and didn't properly tighten the Electrical Supply Wires to the contact terminals which could lead to arcing and fires.
The Well Pump Pressure Switch is a Safe and Dependable Device when it has been properly installed and will provide years of service without a problem. But, when they fail you should call Destin's Well and Pump Repair to repair or replace your Well Pump Pressure Switch.
